Darren's art journey started with drawing using ink and pencils at 3 years of age during a long spell in hospital after a serious accident. Darren now uses multiple disciplines of painting & detailed/loose sketches, all self-taught. Many reasons forced more engagement in different art as he went through the decades. Physical & mental abuse, severe mental instability, operations, concussions, alcohol abuse, etc. A life that has been severely tested. Then in 2019, the diagnosis of severe frontaltemporal lobe damage to the brain, with many other side effects associated with it. All caused by excessive heading of footballs, 15 known concussions, lesser concussions, and many falls. The ticking timebomb is dementia and Darren already has his brain ready for inspection for the diagnosis of CTE upon his passing. Every style of his art keeps the brain active, a vital tool in keeping this future at bay and better mental stability for as long as possible. Nowadays Darren cannot work in normal working environments. The severe damage caused to his brain as well as his seizures and mental disorders cause volatile and unpredictable episodes. He works from a home studio and his every movement is monitored for his safety. Art is the still that breaks away from demons and dark thoughts. Darren's artworks are his own vision, he really stands out from the crowd and is gaining much interest globally.

  Art has been a refuge and a source of strength for Darren his whole life. His approach to painting is always characterised by beautiful colours and an energetic flow. A looser feel compared to less ridged and time-consuming has become his confidence builder. This is a reminder of his resilience ever since his cognitive diagnosis. While many artists favour a specific theme or style, he was unwilling to explore in-depth new ones to the fullest. However, a chance exploration whilst researching a theme was to prove pivotal. His aim was to find and share an emotion with himself and others. As an example, the abstract red hearts that are for sale and commission, allow an outpouring of calming emotions, thoughts, and a unique creativity to his identity as an artist.

  In collaboration with Ellie, we sell dh artwork, which is me. I create wonderful modern self-taught artworks and Ellie keeps the admin side in check. Something I could not combine with creating, selling, and admin due to my medical issues. Getting Ellie on board has freed and energised my creativity. Take a peek for yourselves.
