• Research Assistant · National Technical Institute for the Deaf2020-09-01 – 2020-12-01

  Assisted in the research and development of a new metric, ACE2, for measuring the effectiveness of automatic captioning systems. Developed Python scripts to systematize raw output produced by automatic captioning systems. Used spacy, gensim, and word2vec scientific libraries to evaluate AC systems using the ACE2 metric and the standard WER metric. Built a platform using JavaScript and Python that gathers data from virtual experiments conducted with deaf and hard-of-hearing volunteers.

  Led the development of a search feature built using Elasticsearch and Java, for a feature simulation tool that demystifies consumer preferences. Built an interface to display clickable items that represent and describe ongoing feature simulations using JavaScript and React. Implemented archiving functionality and a REST API endpoint for the tool using Java, SQL, and Kafka.
