Hello! I’m Joel, a UX designer and leader who has spent the last 20 years building innovative experiences by focusing on craft and influencing those around me. Currently I lead core experiences for internal tools at Amazon with an emphasis on AI, scalable frameworks, and design systems within the People Experience Technology organization. Alongside my UX/AI work, I’m curious about how innovation can make a difference in essential but overlooked industries; areas where technology has lagged but the impact can be huge.   - Lead designer major redesign of hyper-local news portal serving the Chapel Hill / Carrboro and surrounding areas. The redesign was responsive, WordPress based and had an accompanying iOS application I also designed. - Lead the migration from a proprietary platform to an open source, future ready platform. - Provided all front-end code for new design, including building pattern library and utilizing object oriented methodologies to ensure consistency and extensibility as the company grew.
